IRRIGATION SERVICE TECHNICIAN
- Position description: The Irrigation Service Technician must be thoroughly familiar with all aspects of irrigation systems to include: wiring controllers and valves, pressure testing, trenching/pulling pipe; installing heads, rotors, valves, main and lateral lines, drip line, bubblers, etc.; operating equipment, ordering correct materials; and interfacing with customers, subcontractors, architects, etc. Require minimal supervision and conduct all jobs in a safe manner and, if necessary, directing a crew of one other employee. The Irrigation Service Technician must also attend to and complete all paperwork and administrative requirements related to the job while creating and maintaining a professional job atmosphere.
- Reports to: The Irrigation Service Technician reports directly to the Irrigation Service Lead/Manager.
- Skill set and educational requirements: The Irrigation Service Technician must possess the following skill set and educational background:
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and must be insurable on company’s insurance policy.
- Have a clean criminal record.
- Legal documentation to verify employment
eligibility. - Physically able to handle the work load of an Irrigation Technician.
- Have full range of mobility in upper and lower body.
- Able to lift 50 pounds without assistance.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English in oral and written forms. (Preferred)
- Able to interact with customers in a professional and courteous manner on a daily basis.
- Responsibilities:
- Has a minimum of ONE year of experience in irrigation service field.
- Thoroughly understands all aspects of irrigation systems as outlined above.
- Able to operate company equipment: trenchers, pullers, trucks, tampers, etc.
- Able to perform all daily preventative maintenance (PM) on company equipment.
- Able to read irrigation plans and drawings.
- Able to lay out the job site and order materials.
- Able to operate irrigation GPS locator system for controllers, valves, heads, rotors, etc.
- Proficient in or able to learn customer relationship management (CRM) software.
- Proficient in or able to learn customer relationship management (CRM) software handheld tracking system.
- Has the leadership capability and demeanor to effectively manage and direct a crew of one or two people.
- Meets or exceeds company production standards for irrigation service work.
- Ensures that jobs are kept on schedule and on budget.
- Ensures that all safety procedures are followed and reports any unsafe conditions to supervisors.
- Ensures all workers’ compensation insurance claims are properly documented and reported immediately.
- Ensures all accidents are properly documented and reported immediately.
- Looks for extras and converts them into change orders when appropriate.
- Ensures all change orders are processed
correctly. - Interfaces with subcontractors to ensure timely and accurate completion of their phase of
projects. - Ensures that company production standards are met.
- Maintains a clean crew truck at all times.
- Able to fill out and process all necessary job paperwork, purchase orders, and time sheets, etc.
- Able to interact with clients, subcontractors, etc. in a professional and competent manner.
- Ensures that job cost reports are properly
analyzed. - Thoroughly understands and complies with company policies, procedures, and SOPs.
- Able to work with minimal supervision from Irrigation Service Manager/Supervisor, but knows when to ask for assistance.
- Is certified in CPR and First Aid.
- Continuing education requirement: minimum of 10 hours per year.
- Salary, bonus, and/or commissions: Commensurate with experience ($15.00 to $20.00 per hour).
